The Caravel

This bar-restaurant is little known to the people of Marseille and yet mythical since it opened in 1920. The small terrace has only 10 seats but offers a breathtaking view of the old port and the Notre-Dame-de-la- Guard.

The entrance is through that of the Bellevue hotel, the bar-restaurant is on the first floor. The place is very pleasant, warm, intimate and wooded. From 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., La Caravelle offers several tapas and cocktails. It is a mainly Mediterranean cuisine, we find for example panisses with a homemade tartar sauce, octopus cooked with lime, tapenade served with vegetables, homemade lemon thyme focaccia served with Corsican ham or platters of meats and cheeses. Prices vary between 9€ and 15€.

The cocktails are delicious, I personally tasted the Pisco Sour and the Amaretto Sour. The prices vary between 10€ and 13€. The wine and beer list is also complete and the bar also offers cocktails and soft drinks.

La Caravelle also offers jazz concerts on Wednesdays and Fridays from 9 p.m. Attention, if you come after 9 p.m., you will have to pay the entrance 4€. The best is to come for 7 p.m., enjoy a table on the terrace if you are lucky, have cocktails and tapas and enjoy the sunset over the old port and the Bonne Mère.

If you want to come for lunch, that's also possible, chef Ogilles offers you fresh, well-crafted Mediterranean products. You will find typical Marseille dishes such as aioli in the photo below. The prices of the starters vary between 13€ and 18€, those of the dishes range from 22€ to 30€, the desserts are at 9€.
