Starting from Lake Montpezat, I suggest a day of canoeing in the Baudinard gorges. Located between Lac Sainte Croix and Lac d'Esparron, Lac de Montpezat is ideally located for exploring the gorges in just 2-2.5 hours. Baudinard is a semi-perched town at the gates of the Gorges du Verdon, near the Lac de Sainte-Croix. By the richness of its exceptional natural environment, Baudinard is one of the treasures of the Verdon.
If you don't have an inflatable canoe, I advise you to rent one at Aquattitude. In addition to being pleasant and efficient, they are located at the entrance to the gorges. You can rent canoes there for one or two people, for half a day (3h) or the day (6h). If you only want to do the Baudinard gorges, half a day is enough. If you prefer to do the gorges, take a picnic on the lake and go back to the lake of Saint Laurent in the South, I advise you to rent by the day. Remember to aim for an arrival time of 9:30 in the morning, people flock quickly in season.
Get on a canoe and immediately turn left towards the gorges (see green line on the map below).
Located downstream from the Sainte-Croix dam, the Baudinard gorges mark the beginning of the lower Verdon gorges. Its steep (100 to 150m high) and narrow cliffs, its lush vegetation, its waterfalls, its sapphire blue water and its caves offer a magical setting for canoeing.
In summer during the heat wave, it's the perfect place to cool off. In fact, the water in the gorges comes from the depths of Lake Sainte-Croix and therefore never sees the sun. The temperature of the water in the gorges reaches 8 degrees!! On one side the wind sliding over the water between the narrow cliffs of the gorges refreshes us, on the other it is totally forbidden to dive from the canoe. I therefore advise you to swim in Lake Montpezat or Lake Saint Laurent where the water is around 23 degrees in summer.
Personally, in terms of the course over the day, I favored 2 hours of canoeing in the Baudinard gorges in the morning, picnic on Lake Montpezat and a leisurely stroll in the afternoon towards Lake Saint Laurent and the gorges, in the direction of Quinson.
