A stone's throw from Vieux Port of Marseille, in the heart of rue Sainte is 44, a bistro perfect for quick and gourmet lunches or tapas evenings to share.
Whether under the shaded patio in green and wood colors or in the interior room whose decor is worthy of an old town house with exposed beams, with vintage bookcases and hanging lights, the restaurant 44 offers bistronomic Mediterranean cuisine.
I went there in the evening to share tapas with friends, the atmosphere is great and the waiters are very pleasant.
For the savoury, the menu offers, for example, melt-in-the-mouth panisses, a delicious truffle pizzetta with melted cheese on top, oven-roasted feta with chilli (see photos below), snacked bluefin tuna in a crispy sesame crust, miso-glazed leeks, butternut sauce risotto, spinach and ricotta gnocchi... There is not much choice for dessert but very well executed, like the apple-verbena tart tatin that I particularly enjoyed. Le 44 also creates very good cocktails to accompany its dishes, I particularly liked their Pisco Sour.
Tapas are around €11, main courses between €18 and €22 and desserts are €8. Le 44 also offers a €19 lunch menu with a dish of the day and a gourmet coffee.
Do not hesitate to book your table via their website, tables are often popular in summer.
