Hike to the Semaphore of La Ciotat

The bec de l'Aigle semaphore dominates La Ciotat, the green island and the coast. I propose here a beautiful hike on the heights of the city. The level is easy, 2h40 of walking for 8km with a drop of 330m. The markup is yellow except on the urban parts.

You can find an overview of the course above. You can park in the Mugel car park (point 1) and walk along Avenue du Mugel, then Avenue de Figuerolles on the right, and Chemin de la Garde on the left until the intersection of 2 roads (point 2). At this point you can add 20 minutes round trip to go up to the Notre Dame de la Garde chapel and admire a magnificent view of the creeks of La Ciotat. Otherwise, continue straight on the Semaphore path which climbs gradually. At point 3, in front of a "private property" sign, take the balcony path on the left which runs along a stone wall and follow the yellow route towards the semaphore (point 4).

Enjoy the view of the blue immensity offered by the sea. Pass in front of the semaphore, follow the path to the right that goes around it to reach the ridge road. Cross it to access the orientation table, then follow the road to the signposts. Take the direction "La Ciotat par la chappelle Sainte-Croix" staying on the yellow route. Walk along the stone walls to the ruins of the chapel (just before point 5). Continue down Chemin Sainte-Croix, cross an avenue to take the stairs. Follow Avenue de la pétanque then Avenue Galliéni and Rue Gueymard on the right. Walk along the old port to the right towards the Avenue des Calanques and go back to the Mugel car park.

If you have some time, don't hesitate to take a look at the Calanque du Mugel (photo below), not far from the car park.
