Restaurant regulars since childhood, Louise and Julia Toche, two sisters from Marseille, followed in their father's footsteps and built their bistronomic canteen named Cantoche in 2021, in the former Galeries Lafayette in the Opéra district of Marseille.

While Louise welcomes us into the dining room with a smile, Julia works in the kitchen to serve us magnificent bistro-style dishes. Cantoche has literally become my canteen, serving me one or two lunches a week. I love enjoying their new daily recipes at a sunny table on Rue Haxo.

Cantoche's cuisine is heavily inspired by Mediterranean flavors and always offers a vegetarian option. Julia and her team revisit well-known dishes by testing new flavor combinations, such as the classic sandwich revisited in a homemade bun, pulled pork with miso, pickled vegetables and mustard yogurt, the deconstructed lasagna with cream of squash, walnuts, oyster mushrooms and grilled leeks or the meagre ceviche flavored with coconut milk, lime, ginger and red onions, served with crispy matchstick fries, all perked up with a plum/harissa/dill sauce.

Everything at Cantoche comes from Marseille: the plates (which I love) are made by the ceramists at the Franca workshop , the bread comes from the well-known bakery on Cours Julien Pain Pan , the cheese from Raisin Crème , and the vegetables from the Paysan Moderne greengrocer.

The interior room is carefully decorated in orange terracotta and off-white colors. The square tables and small glasses of water recall the spirit of our childhood canteen. We feel very good there, I advise you to spend one lunchtime at Cantoche, you will never be disappointed! Do not hesitate to book (by phone at 04 91 70 24 99 ) , the restaurant is open every lunchtime except Sunday.
